Legal Services
Under 1 Roof’s legal services department provides legal assistance to individuals. By focusing on the elimination of obstacles that keep individuals in situations that are unsafe and unhealthy, Under 1 Roof seeks to help those who may have nowhere else to turn for legal support. Among the services provided are:

-
Landlord/Tenant workshops to inform individuals of their rights and responsibilities as tenants in the state of Texas.
-
Representation before administrative bodies concerning applications for food stamps, unemployment benefits, etc.
-
Assistance with addressing the legal concerns that individuals may be facing which act as barriers to self-sufficiency (Class C misdemeanors and warrants, criminal convictions, etc.).
-
Assistance and/or referrals with family law matters such as divorce, child custody and protective orders.
Outreach to traditionally underserved and/or underrepresented populations Under 1 Roof will provide services to Spanish- and English-speaking victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. This includes legal representation, as well as providing any workshops in both languages for the benefit of participants. In doing so, Under 1 Roof will be able to reach out to those victims who might feel frustrated and/or trapped at the lack of resources available relevant to them.
Workshops will be held at least once monthly to address the concerns presented when interviewing clients for assistance. By addressing the most often presented concern in workshop fashion, more individuals will receive the education and resources. Pre- and Post-Tests will be distributed and completed to determine what the participants learned and what can be improved to provide better information.
